On July 19, 2018 the Conservation Corps Green Team, in partnership with Northeast Avalon ACAP, visited the Mercy Centre for Ecology and Justice to host an environmental awareness event. The focus was on climate change and to explore how our everyday choices impact the amount of greenhouse gases we emit.
A group of children learned about climate change through demonstrations of how greenhouse gases impact our atmosphere. When adding several blankets to a volunteer, the campers learned that greenhouse gases act like a blanket since they hold in heat. The participants then learned several ways to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are heating the planet.
To fight climate change, people from all backgrounds need to unite and work together to take meaningful actions. This event was a successful partnering of community organizations to push for the common goal of positive change for our planet. The Mercy Centre for Ecology and Justice is a local organization that bridges faith and science. More information on their events can be found here.
