Your handbook for enjoying and protecting your freshwater shoreline
As Newfoundlanders and Labradorians we are all familiar with the joys as well as hardships that are associated with living near water. While we are lucky to be surrounded by an abundance of freshwater, we have to understand that it is indeed a finite and precious resource. Not only are shorelines areas of rich animal and plant diversity, it is precisely from rivers and lakes where much of our drinking water is supplied. Everything we put on our lawns, wash down storm sewers and discharge in the sink eventually ends up back in our rivers and lakes. Damages to watersheds are hard to reverse so, as homeowners, there are some important things you can do to help protect water quality!
